As the new St. Alphonsus Liguori Church was being planned (it was dedicated in 2004), parishioner Al Donato pushed for having stained glass in the church. Six artists were invited to create designs and give a 20 minute presentation - most of those were abstract. The last person to present was Rich Buswell, a senior artist of Lynchburg Stained Glass Company in Virginia. He was unanimously chosen to design the windows. Rich worked for 10 months alongside architect Jack Munson, former pastor Father Douglas McCormack, and the SAL stained glass committee to create the beautiful artwork you see today.
The windows were made by the Lynchburg Stained Glass Company in Virginia using glass from the Kokomo Opalescent Glass Company in Kokomo, Indiana, and the Blenko Glass Company in Milton, West Virginia. The windows also contain glass imported from France, Germany, and Poland.
According to Melanie Kirkpatrick at Lynchburg Stained Glass, "The east ‘Nativity’ transept window is approximately 20 x 35 feet. The north 'To Enhance the Crucifix’ and West ‘Ascension’ transept windows are approximately 20 x 23 feet. The west chapel window ‘St. Alphonsus/Our Lady of Perpetual Help’ and the east Reception Room ‘Resurrection’ window are each 10 x 22 feet. There are also four additional south windows that measure 4.5 x 10.2 feet."
