The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a combination of education, immersion, and spiritual growth that can trace its roots to the earliest days of the Church when members were still openly persecuted for their faith in Jesus Christ. In this uncertain environment, new members were carefully vetted, often over a period of several years, before they were permitted to join the community, be initiated into the faith, and celebrate Mass as a full member of the Church.
Thankfully, the modern Church in the United States is not subject to the same persecution as our earliest brethren, and the RCIA process is more open and a bit shorter! The goals, however, remain the same: through a combination of education, community support, and liturgical rites we, with the Grace of God, examine and form those who seek initiation into full communion with the Body of Christ.
The RCIA program at St. Alphonsus Liguori Parish begins the Sunday following Labor Day and continues until Pentecost – 50 days after Easter. Participants are expected to attend meetings each Sunday, beginning at 8:45 a.m., and then attend 10:30 a.m. Mass together.
