Saint Alphonsus Liguori Parish is a thriving and growing community, and the youth of our parish factor largely into that vitality. If they are an indication of the direction the Church is heading, we are definitely on the right path! Over the past two weekends, several high school students devoted their time to God by participating in a couple of soul-inspiring retreats. We checked in with retreat participants to find out a little more about their experience.
Knights of the Holy Temple
Throughout the United States, there are 10 chapters of the Knights of the Holy Temple - young men of high school age - who support one another in prayer and fellowship, and encourage their brothers to live out their Catholic faith; they have a deep devotion to the Blessed Sacrament of Jesus, and are committed to fostering the culture of life.
On Friday, October 21 young men from the Zionsville chapter of the Knights of the Holy Temple got together for their annual Saint Michael Retreat. It was an on-campus event that allowed participants to connect with one another in fun and faith. The following day, the group headed south to Brown County where they met up with other Knights from our local diocese. The day was packed with all kinds of excitement, from paintball to prayer! It also included an initiation ceremony welcoming the newest fraternity members.
Saint Alphonsus Liguori’s first Antioch retreat, October 28 - 30, brought together a second group of youth - from our own parish as well as from Our Lady of Mount Carmel. This particular retreat is similar to Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) but is attended and led by teenagers. It is a weekend that deals with the issues of today for young people, and includes a mixture of fun, music, sharing, and spiritual growth.
Having previously attended at least one Antioch Retreat themselves, a generous group of youth from Our Lady of Mount Carmel facilitated this particular weekend, baring their souls as witnesses to Christ and leading the way in praise and worship. Antioch is an awesome way to bond and unite with others in the Catholic faith! The weekend was filled with prayer, reflections, a celebration of the sacraments and more! All weekend activities were youth specific and met these young students along their faith journey.
