1. Reflection: Judges 17:10; 18:19 - Priesthood and fatherhood have always been identified together. Fatherhood literally means "communicating one's nature," and just as biological fathers communicate their nature to their children, so do spiritual fathers communicate the nature of God to us, their children, through teaching and example.

We need them in life's early morning,
We need them again at its close;
We feel their warm clasp of true friendship,
We seek them when tasting life's woes.
At the altar each day we behold them,
And the hands of a king on his throne
Are not equal to them in their greatness;
Their dignity stands all alone;
And when we are tempted and wander,
To pathways of shame and of sin,
It's the hand of a priest that will absolve us--
Not once, but again and again.
And when we are taking life's partner,
Other hands may prepare us a feast,
But the hand that will bless and unite us--
Is the beautiful hand of a priest.
God bless them and keep them all holy,
For the Host which their fingers caress;
When can a poor sinner do better,
Than to ask Him to guide thee and bless?
When the hour of death comes upon us,
May our courage and strength be increased,
By seeing raised over us in blessing--
The beautiful hands of a priest.
3. Family Activity
Find time this week to thank your parish priest! They always enjoy a kind word or a short note.
A day in the life of a priest: This video might be 15 minutes in length, but it's worth watching!
4. Inspirational Story Have you ever thought what it would be like if there wasn’t a priest to baptize or marry your children or grandchildren, give them their First Communion or hear Confession? What if the Sacrament of Anointing was not available when you needed it – or if there wasn’t a priest to preside at a parent’s funeral? We need to pray for more young men to answer God’s call to the Priesthood. It is a true gift to us all!
Here is a story that was in the Zionsville Current paper about four young men from our parish who are in seminary. Read it
