Hello July - list of parish happenings!
The sweet smell of summer is here with special book studies, youth service trips, theology discussions and the infamous parish festival. Don't let July pass you by without diving into your faith and parish community here at St. Alphonsus. Look below for a list of special occasions that will take place this month.

World Day of Prayer for Priests - Friday, July 1, all day
This day is celebrated in the Church as the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In 2002, the Catholic Church designated this special day as also a world day of prayer for the sanctification of priests. We invite you and your family to join Catholics across the globe for a day of prayer and thanksgiving for the priests in our parishes.

Happy 4th of July - Monday, July 4 (parish office is closed)
Many blessings for a wonderful, restful and safe 4th of July holiday. As you enjoy this time and celebrate with friends and family, please remember the parish office will be closed. The office will be open again, Tuesday, July 5 for its usual schedule of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be no 6:30 a.m. Mass on Monday, July 4, but please join us for Mass at 9 a.m.
One Book - One Parish - Wednesdays and Thursdays this month
The Parish of St. Alphonsus Liguori is diving into Reasons to Believe, a book on defending the Catholic faith written by the well-known author and theology professor, Scott Hahn. Join members of the parish in this summer book read. Read at home and feel free to attend small group sessions to discuss topics on Wednesday mornings or Thursday evenings. It's okay if you cannot make all the small group sessions. If you happen to miss a group meeting you can catch up and read notes from the gathering on the all new faith formation blog.

Daughters of the Immaculata - at weekend Masses for July 9 and 10
The Daughters of the Immaculata, high school girls ministry, will be speaking at Masses about their work at our parish and ministry for young ladies. They will also be available in the narthex for any who may have questions. Be sure to visit with the Daughters this weekend.
Coffee and Donut Sunday and SCRIP- Sunday, July 10 following both Masses
Join your parish friends and family after Mass for a social gathering of refreshments and food. Follow the crowd to Weitzel Hall and while you're there, feel free to peruse through a large selection of SCRIP gift cards to a variety of popular merchants in the area. SCRIP gift cards help give back a small amount of purchases to support St. Alphonsus Liguori. Plus, SCRIP makes great gifts especially for college students to take back to school with them!
Youth Summer Bible Study - Mondays on July 11, July 18, August 1 & August 8 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
This summer both middle and high school youth are encouraged to enjoy a four-part bible adventure covering the Book of Revelation. Using a special DVD series of powerful presentations by Mark Hart, the "Bible Geek," and Vice President of Life Teen Ministries, sessions will be both engaging and informative.

Theology on Tap- Mondays on July 11, 18, 25 and August 8, 15, and 22 at 7 - 9 p.m.
You're invited to a new series of speakers and social gatherings for the 2011 Theology on Tap specially crafted for young adults ages 18-35, but open to all! Theology on Tap is a popular style of bringing together young adults to discuss and grow in their faith with dynamic guest speakers covering an array of topics in a casual restaurant setting. The series theme will be "Seeing God." We'll hear about seeing God in the workplace, at home, in miracles and more! Meetings will be at OoBatz! restaurant just east of the parish on West Oak street.

Catholic University, "Leave No Doubt" - Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Guerin Catholic High School
Just when you thought school ended - the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana begins a brand new series of classroom-like sessions covering some of the most talked about topics regarding our Catholic faith. The sessions are geared toward college and young adults, but all are welcome to attend. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided.

Habitat for Humanity- at weekend Masses July 16 - 17
A special second collection to support the Habitat for Humanity ministry and their mission will occur at all Masses. St. Alphonsus' Habitat for Humanity crew has been a part of the building projects for six homes in the past four years.

Summer Dayz- Tuesday, July 19 through Thursday, July 21
Calling all incoming 7th and 8th grade students! Get ready to be a witness of living the Beatitudes while you embark on an adventure across Central Indiana providing charitable work for others in need. Did we mention there is food, social activities and a celebration of the Sacraments as well? Register soon before it's too late!

FESTIVAL: St. Alphonsus Texas Hold'em Tournament- Friday, July 29, 6 p.m. at Weitzel Hall
Join members of the parish and community as we kick-off the festivities for this year's St. Alphonsus community festival with a Texas Hold'em Tournament. This fun social gathering is a great way to meet and catch up with others. Participants must be at least 18 years old to play and there is a $35 buy-in + (1) re-buy. Proceeds help support the annual parish festival. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to register and play.
FESTIVAL: St. Alphonsus' Annual Community Festival! - Saturday, July 30
The day will begin with the increasingly popular, "You Can Call Me Al," 5K race/walk at 8 a.m. and continue on until nightfall with games, food, a silent auction and entertainment. Celebrate the summer with giant inflatable rides, warm BBQ sandwiches and a spectacular display of fireworks right here at our home parish. The festival committee is also looking for energetic volunteers and live auction donations for those interested in playing a special role in this major Zionsville event.
