Saturday, June 11 to Sunday, June 12 Informational announcement and second collection
All Masses at St. Alphonsus Liguori
Ten years ago the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana had eight seminarians in formation for the priesthood. Today, that number is 27. As a diocese we are truly blessed to have such an increasing number of fine young men answering God's call to priesthood and discerning their vocation.
There are two seminarians from our parish who are currently enrolled at Saint John Vianney College Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., and more who are discerning and entering as soon as this coming fall.
As the number of men entering seminary increases, so does the cost of their schooling. It is estimated that for one seminarian the endured cost is about $40,000 a year. Due to the rising cost of education, the diocese has begun the Seminary Fund Appeal, to make up for these increases that the Fruitful Harvest simply cannot meet.
Please help support our seminarians in their preparation and discernment for the priesthood (see video below for more information). All funds collected from parishioner contributions toward the seminary appeal will be solely for educating our men in seminary. The overall goal for the diocese is to raise $425,000 - of the $1.6 million estimated for supporting all 27 seminarians.
How you can help: Most importantly, please keep our seminarians in prayer as they continue with their preparation. The weekend of June 11 and 12 will address the 2011 Seminarian Appeal with information and a special second collection at each Mass. Inside your monthly supply of envelopes you will find a set that are gold colored and branded with the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana seal. These envelopes help support the Seminary Fund Appeal. Or you may donate online at www.dol-in.org and make a contribution under the "Seminary Education Fund." Gold envelopes collected at other Masses will still be accepted.
The brown envelope found in your monthly supply for June is for vocational programming for our young people at St. Alphonsus Liguori. If you have any questions regarding the Seminarian Appeal, please contact our parish office at 317.873.2885. Any and all contributions are a blessing and gift that the diocese is most grateful for. Thank you!
