About the Parish's Black Bag Food Drive: You may be familiar with the donation box located near the Day Chapel inside the narthex of the church. The food and clothing items left in this box have offered a steady supply of necessary items for the county's donation center - The Caring Center.
The Saint Alphonsus Liguori Outreach Committee holds a large food drive to assist the center and serve those in need - you're invited to help!
Step 1: Pick up your bag
On specific weekends following the Masses, volunteers will be handing out special Outreach Committee reusable grocery sacks. Take one (or two) home with you.
Step 2: Stock your bag
Take your bag home and fill it with food items to donate. Non-perishable items work the best, such as canned foods, cereals, boxed pasta dinners, jars of peanut butter or jelly, etc ...
Step 3: Return and leave the bag by your car*
Each bag pick up weekend, will be followed by a food donation weekend. So after filling your bag up at home, bring it back with you on your way to Mass during the donation weekend. Simply leave your bag by your car (either on the pavement next to your vehicle or on the trunk) and a team of volunteers will pick up all the filled bags in the lot and bring them to the donation center while you enjoy the celebration of Mass.
After each donation weekend, the reusable bags will be kept for future drives.
*If there is inclement weather, there will be a drop-off area inside the narthex for all filled bags.
The Caring Center is located in Lebanon, Ind. and serves 10,000+ individuals and families each year through food and clothing donations. Their facility includes a warehouse for storage, kitchen and meeting rooms. Since its beginnings in the early 1980's, The Caring Center has grown from a project started by a group of volunteers to an established organization supported by the community it serves.
