This past fall, another 40 Days for Life campaign took place across the globe and concluded November 6. The campaign's mission is "to bring together the body of Christ in a spirit of unity during a focused 40 day campaign of prayer, fasting, and peaceful activism, with the purpose of repentance, to seek God’s favor to turn hearts and minds from a culture of death to a culture of life, thus bringing an end to abortion in America."
This organized prayer vigil started in 2007, and has since had nine organized 40 Days for Life campaigns that have occurred in 422 cities throughout the United States and Canada as well as within communities of Australia, England, Northern Ireland, Argentina, Denmark and more.
During the campaigns communities are encouraged to pray for an end to abortion while also offering up other sacrifices through fasting. The three components to the campaign inlcude: Prayer and Fasting, Constant Vigil and Community Outreach.
The 2011 fall campaign
Members of the Embrace Life Committee at St. Alphonsus Liguori helped organize campaign efforts while also joining other parishioners in prayer and making small daily scarifices. The total number of prayer and fasting offered by St. Alphonsus parishioners included 64 hours of prayer at the vigil site, 6 hours of adoration, 82 Rosaries, 53 Divine Mercy Chaplets, 6 hours of reading Scripture and 41 total days of fasting.
God's grace has been seen throughout these 40 Days for Life campaigns. This past fall, a recorded number of known babies saved during the 40 days included 12 in Indianapolis and a total of 732 throughout the globe.
Since 2007, 16 abortion facilities have shut down following a 40 Days for Life campaign, 500,000 individuals have come together in prayer, and a recorded number of 5,045 lives have been saved from abortion. Praise God!
The next campaign
Another 40 Days for Life campaign will take place this spring. Please consider committing to prayer and/fasting during the next 40 days. You can also join other parishioners at the Indianapolis Planned Parenthood facility to participate in the peaceful prayer vigil along with others throughout the community.
