We are truly blessed and excited to welcome Father Christopher Roberts to Saint Alphonsus Liguori as the newest member of our parish family! This week, Bishop Timothy L. Doherty formally announced that Father Roberts' new assignment will be Associate Pastor to our parish. Ordained on June 16, 2007, Father Roberts previously served as Associate Pastor at the parishes of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Carmel, Ind., and Saint Francis of Assisi in Muncie, Ind.
You may have already spotted him around campus, as Father Roberts has already celebrated a few Masses here before his new assignment was announced. He is excited and thankful to be at St. Alphonsus Liguori. Please make Father Roberts feel at home as he adjusts to his newly appointed position, assisting Father O'Keeffe and serving our community. To help you get to know him, we took the time to ask Father Roberts a few questions about himself. Check out his responses below.
In addition, be sure to visit and greet Father Roberts at Masses this weekend and beyond. More information and special announcements will be made to share this exciting news.
Where did you grow up? I was born and raised in Logansport, Indiana, the youngest of six children. My father was an industrial plumber and my mother, a registered nurse. (Did you know? Logansport is also Father O'Keeffe's hometown.)
When did you discern the priesthood? I began thinking about going to seminary after my freshman year in college and entered seminary after finishing my undergraduate work. Bishop Higi ordained me to the priesthood in June of 2007 after six years of formation.
Who was the biggest influence in your life? The biggest influence in my life to this point has been Father John McDermott, SJ, who introduced me to the study of Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical College Josephinum, and has been a continuing point of reference for me both in understanding the priesthood and my continuing intellectual development.
What is the latest book you have read? Divine Therapy and Addictions by Fr. Thomas Keating O.C.S.O., which treats the relevance of the 12 steps of AA to the spiritual life generally.
What is your least favorite food? Anything that takes longer than five minutes to prepare!
Where is the last place you traveled? My last trip outside of the United States was a pilgrimage that I led to Rome and Assisi in 2009.
Do you have a patron saint? If yes, who? The patron saint I chose when I was confirmed was Saint Ignatius of Loyola, a sixteenth-century Spaniard whose Spiritual Exercises have played a very important role in my life up to now.
What are some of your hobbies? I am a huge Notre Dame football fan. I also enjoy exercise and reading.
What do you most look forward to as Associate Pastor of Saint Alphonsus Liguori? I am very excited that I have a chance to get to know this parish and listen to how the Lord is calling me to serve during my time here.
