On November 16 the parish will come together to celebrate the seminarians of our diocese while raising support for their educational and formation needs. Learn more about the event
As we look forward to the Hearts of Fire event, we checked in with the seminarians from our parish to see what's new with them and their studies.
Tune in each week to hear from each of the four seminarians from St. Alphonsus Liguori.
Here is what Seminarian Nicholas Brown had to share:
When did you begin/enroll in seminary and where are you in your studies now?
I started the application process in March and was accepted in July. I am a sophomore at the University of St. Thomas and Saint John Vianney College Seminary studying Philosophy and Catholic Studies.
What is your favorite class?
My favorite class is Catholic Studies 201. We are going through the Catechism and learning what exactly the teachings of the church are with anything from sin to evolution to the Incarnation.
How do you enjoy spending your free time at school?
I spend a lot of time hanging out with the other men on my floor, smoking cigars with brothers and playing a Gaelic game called hurley (very similar to field hockey).
Name one of your hobbies or talents.
I enjoy all sports from running to basketball.
What are you looking forward to the most this year?
I am really enjoying and continue looking forward to the fraternity here. It is amazing what can happen being surrounded by men very different from you and yet all striving for holiness.
What is something that can be challenging in the life of a seminarian?
Getting enough sleep. Getting up for 6:15 am Holy Hours while trying to get all of your homework done and do everything else the seminary has you doing is a real difficulty. Naps are taken as often as needed.
Are you reading any books right now?
Reading the Catechism for my Catholic Studies 201 class has been great. I am also reading The Life of St. Francis of Assisi by St. Bonaventure which is a great look into a saint's life from another saint.
What is your favorite meal or food served at the college?
My favorite meal thus far has been the Blue Door Pub. They have what is called a Jiffy Burger, made with peanut butter and bacon. Fantastic!
Anything else you want to share with the parish?
All I ask is that you continue to pray for me as I will continue to pray for you!
Enjoy hearing from Nick? Feel free to keep in touch and let him know of your prayers or wishes for him during his formation. Feel free to send any notes of encouragement to:
