On November 16 the parish will come together to celebrate the seminarians of our diocese while raising support for their educational and formation needs. Learn more about the event
As we look forward to the Hearts of Fire event, we checked in with the seminarians from our parish to see what's new with them and their studies.
Tune in each week to hear from each of the four seminarians from St. Alphonsus Liguori.
Here is what Seminarian Michael Bower had to share: When did you begin/enroll in seminary and where are you in your studies now?
I began seminary in the fall of 2008, and I am currently in Theology 2 (three years from ordination).
What is your favorite class?
Christology - what could be cooler than a class entirely on Jesus?
How do you enjoy spending your free time at school?
Playing guitar, reading and spending time with the other guys.
Name one of your hobbies or talents.
Singing country music.
What are you looking forward to the most this year?
I am really looking forward to a camp staff reunion this winter in Texas.
What is something that can be challenging in the life of a seminarian?
I think that the hardest thing for a seminarian is that we don’t see very much fruit in our labor. As priests, we will have a lot of tangible hands-on ministry, but while in seminary it is mostly preparation for ministry, which can be challenging at times.
Are you reading any books right now?
“How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization”- I love it.
What is your favorite meal or food served at the college?
My favorite meal served at the seminary is pizza from the campus pub.
Anything else you want to share with the parish?
I continue to be grateful for your prayers and support, and I am eager to serve you all as a priest! Enjoy hearing from Michael? Feel free to keep in touch and let him know of your prayers or wishes for him during his formation. Feel free to send any notes of encouragement to:
