What is a "dovetail?" For parishes that have a major project to fund such as new buildings or a school, they are able to apply for a dovetail. Normally, a parish that reaches its given Fruitful Harvest goal in paid pledges will receive a percentage back for its own funds. However, dovetail parishes that have expressed an important and major need, are able to receive 100% of all paid pledges beyond their parish's given goal. St. Alphonsus Liguori is a dovetail parish for this campaign. The gifts that are received into the dovetail portion of our parish's goal will help support the costs remaining from the parish's renovations project.
When does Fruitful Harvest 2012 begin? Fruitful Harvest will begin in October as families pray and make pledges. Pledge cards are returned to the parish by December and gifts are then fulfilled between the months of January 2013 and August 2014. Gifts are sent to the diocese and can be done so by check or online at www.dol-in.org. The diocese will also send reminders to families throughout the two years of the campaign.
What if I still have to fulfill my pledge from the 2010 campaign? If you still have to fulfill a pledge from the 2010 campaign, you may do so until December. If you have questions about your 2010 pledge, please feel free to contact the parish office at 317.873.2885.
Do parishes receive a goal? Yes. The campaign goal given to each parish every two years is calculated from a combination of the number of families and previous offertory records from that community.
Does my gift help the parish? Fruitful Harvest is set up to provide parishes with a rebate of 10% of their campaign goal if it is completely reached in paid pledges. This year, Saint Alphonsus Liguori has received an opportunity known as a "dovetail,” that is offered for parishes fundraising a specific need. When a parish has a dovetail, it is able to receive the entire amount of gifts that exceed its goal instead of a percentage. Once the parish goal is reached in paid pledges, a rebate for the overage is sent to the parish quarterly. The overage for St. Alphonsus Liguori will support the renovations project and help pay a portion of the cost for our newly expanded facilities.
How does my gift help the diocese? The campaign covers a variety of ministries. Allocations include 46% for programming such as vocations, Ecclesial Lay Ministry, Diaconate Family Life, RCIA, adult formation and more. Another 28% goes toward outreach and care, Newman Centers, priest retirement, prison ministry, adoption referrals, American Missions, Indiana Catholic Conference and more. Another 26% supports the tribunal, administration, development, Catholic Foundation, planned giving and more.
What if I am just not able to give this campaign? We are all called to be stewards and to serve with great love. Everyone's gift is going to be different. After praying, some my discern that they are not able to give at this time - that is okay. Please still return your pledge card with a zero amount.
What if I will not be here to pick up my pledge card next weekend? Pledge cards will also be available to pick up at the Opening Celebration following the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, October 14. Cards that are not picked up by Monday, October 15, will be mailed to the individual family.
