The beginning of a new liturgical year is quickly approaching. It is a time of anticipation, a time of preparation, a time of expectation - all leading up to “Adventus Domini” - “the coming of the Lord." This year, Advent begins on Sunday, November 27. So, as we simultaneously await the nativity of the Christ child, His grace in our lives and finally, His second coming, here are some opportunities to help you revel in the spirit of the season ...
Advent Series: Don’t miss this engaging and eye-opening series on Jesus with Father Roberts in the Day Chapel. Sessions will be offered at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. each Sunday of Advent.
Weekly series themes are:
Nov. 27 - A Prophet Like no Other
Dec. 4 - A Dangerous Messiah
Dec. 11 - The Secret to Happiness
Dec. 18 - The Non-Violent Revolution
Advent Decorations: The Arts and Environment Committee will make weekly changes to the decor around the church, in keeping with the scriptures. See if you can tell what’s new each week you come to Mass!
Christmas Play: Saint Alphonsus’ fourth annual Christmas play will take place at the 7:30 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass. If you could help out in any capacity or if you have children who would like to participate, please contact Sandra Santucci at 873-2885, ext. 109 or email [email protected]. Rehearsals for the play will take place over three days during Advent. There are parts for children ages preschool to 6th grade. See the weekly bulletin for more information.
Penance Service: Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Thursday, December 15, at 7 p.m. - cleanse the soul and renew the spirit as we anticipate a joyful Christmas!
Roman Missal: Remember, the new changes to the Roman Missal go into effect on the first day of Advent. Several of our prayers and responses will be slightly different, so follow closely with guides that will be available in the pews.
Caroling: Spread love and cheer to the home-bound and those in nursing homes on Saturday, December 17, at 11:30 a.m. Carolers will also partake in servings of hot chocolate and cookies afterwards as they fill FUN packs for the Caring Center in Lebanon.
The Giving Tree: Share in Christ’s love for others by selecting a paper ornament or two from the Giving Tree in the narthex and contributing to those in need.
